Expert in baggage handling explains why it's a bad idea to tie a ribbon around your bags.

John, a veteran luggage handler at Dublin Airport, claims that these widely used strategies can backfire.

Actually, they have the potential to make all your travel nightmares come true.

Forget the Bow
John warned RSVP Live viewers that adding unique ribbons to their bags may cause delays and raise the possibility that their items might miss their trip.

"The scanning process in the baggage hall can be complicated when travelers tie ribbons onto their suitcases for easy identification," John told the site. "If a bag cannot be scanned automatically, it will be processed by hand, which increases the possibility that your bag will not be allowed onto the flight."

Your bags may have a better chance of getting to their destination on time if you don't include identifying markers like ribbons and old travel stickers when you check them in.

"Take off any old stickers from your bags; they might mess up the scanning procedure," John says.

The delicious almond-flavored dessert marzipan is another possible luggage hazard. John says that transporting marzipan can make you a target for airport security.

"Marzipan should never be carried in a suitcase. Your belongings might be seized and you could be asked to exit the aircraft for a check since its density is similar to that of certain bombs, said the Dublin luggage expert.

As a last precaution, turn your luggage wheels up before feeding it to handlers like John on the conveyor belt.

Say Goodbye to Plain Old Baggage
You are no longer limited to the traditional options of black, brown, or blue when it comes to luggage design. Modern options have really revolutionized the industry.

Black baggage "is one of the most—if not, the most—versatile colors, which is why it's so prevalent," as pointed out by Travel & Leisure.

"If you want your bags to stand out at baggage claim, it's worth choosing a different hue," the publication says. Think about getting a case with a design or a bright hue, such flaming pink.

Plus, there is a wide selection of colorful baggage available to ensure that your belongings stand out from the crowd, even if pink isn't your style.

You may also use fabric paint or stickers to add distinguishing elements to your baggage that won't interfere with scanning, which is a good option if you're not ready to leave with your present set.

John's wisdom should alleviate some of the burdens that globetrotters bear!
