There’s something magical about seeing a ladybug — even more so when it’s not the classic red and black version you expect.
A few years ago, I was outside watering my garden when a tiny yellow dot landed gently on my arm.
At first, I thought it was a pollen speck.
Then it moved.
I looked closer — this wasn’t just any bug.
It was a yellow ladybug , delicate and golden like sunlight caught in shell form.
Intrigued, I did what we all do…
I Googled it.
And what I found changed how I saw these little insects forever.
Let’s explore what it means to see a yellow ladybug — and why their presence might be more than just coincidence.
🐞 Are Yellow Ladybugs Really Ladybugs?
Yes — they absolutely are!
While most of us are familiar with the red-and-spotted variety , ladybugs come in many colors: orange, brown, black… and yes, soft butter-yellow .
They belong to the same Coccinellidae family , and while they may look different, they’re still part of the same group of beneficial insects known for helping control pests and bring a touch of nature's whimsy into our lives.
Some yellow ladybugs, like those in the Psyllobora genus, actually prefer eating mildew and fungi instead of aphids — making them helpful in their own unique way.
So if you spot one in your garden…
Don’t shoo it away.
It’s probably doing you a favor.
