An experienced luggage handler at Dublin Airport named John, however, claims that these widely used strategies can cause more problems than they solve.
Actually, they have the potential to make all your travel nightmares come true.
Forget the Bow
John warned RSVP Live viewers that attaching unique ribbons to their bags increases the likelihood that their items may be delayed or even lost in transit.
"The scanning process in the baggage hall can be complicated when travelers tie ribbons onto their suitcases for easy identification," John said to the site. "Your bag may not be able to board the flight if it cannot be scanned automatically; in such cases, manual processing may be necessary."
Your bags may have a better chance of getting to their destination on time if you don't include identifying markers like ribbons and old travel stickers when you check them in.
"Take off any old stickers from your bags; they might mess up the scanning procedure," John says.
Marzipan, a delicious almond-flavored confection, is another possible baggage-crushing obstacle. According to John, if you're traveling with marzipan, security may flag you.
"Keep marzipan out of your suitcase at all costs. The Dublin baggage expert warned that since it has the same density as certain bombs, your suitcase might be searched and you could be asked to leave the aircraft.
As a last precaution, turn your luggage wheels up before feeding it to handlers like John on the conveyor belt.
Say Goodbye to Plain Old Baggage
You are no longer limited to the traditional options of black, brown, or blue when it comes to luggage design. Modern options have really revolutionized the industry.
Black is "one of the most—if not, the most—versatile colors, which is why it's so prevalent," according to Travel & Leisure.
In order to make your bags stand out at baggage claim, the outlet recommends going with a contrasting color. You may go for a brightly colored one, like hot pink, or one with a design.
There is a wide variety of baggage available in a rainbow of vivid hues, so even if pink isn't your thing, your belongings will stand out.
Another option is to use fabric paint or stickers to add distinguishing elements that won't interfere with scanning. This is a good alternative to getting rid of your present baggage altogether.
Travelers from all over the world should feel a little less anxious after reading John's views!
